Regret is Powerful and Kind
by Michael Feeley
REVISITING REGET IS not easy! The pain of regret is something we all live with – remembering things we did in the past that caused us embarrassment and sadness, even heartache, wishing we had done something differently – feeling deeply sorry for unjust choices, actions, and words.
These feelings of distress are valuable because you can learn from them and change the regret you feel into some resolution and peace.
Instead of locking yourself down in shame, you can free yourself by changing your mind- changing how you think – and having a change of heart over the past.
Mistakes can be fixed.
You can study regret and the reasons why you did something, and when you see the facts, the truth, you’ll begin to feel relief, self-kindness, and confidence that you’ll never make that mistake again.
That’s the positive energy and purpose of the pain of regret, signaling you that you have more to see and learn and that you can change and not be emotionally tortured.
You can forgive yourself with honest regret and make new choices for today and the future.
Regret is a powerful and kind offering that allows you to be different if you choose to do the work and have compassion for yourself.
You can recover from regret… maybe even rejoice.
