Void
by Michael Feeley
We can fear the void. The empty chair. The quiet after the job ends, the house after the children leave, the morning with nothing on the calendar. We call it loss. Lack. Something missing.
But turn it over. Is the void really empty?
Astronomers tell us black holes are not simply endings. Matter spirals in, heats up, and blazes with light. Jets of energy blast outward and influence the birth of new stars nearby. Even a black hole, in theory, gives its energy back over time.
I know the void well. Some mornings I sit down to write my Daily with no idea what to say. The page is blank. Then pen meets paper, and something appears. An idea. A word. An image. The emptiness begins to fill.
Your void may work the same way. What you’ve taken in – the lessons, losses, the years – doesn’t vanish. It gathers, deepens, and returns as something new. Your void has potential.
So today, ask yourself: Where do I feel empty? What is missing?
Then ask the braver question: What is this space, the void, making room for?
The void is not where things end. It is where they begin. Where things are born.
