Par Down and Up
by Michael Feeley
PARING DOWN CAN be a positive choice.
It means cutting back – decreasing bit by bit – reducing – trimming away – to arrive at exactly what you need so you get to the essence of something.
It’s similar to editing a book – you cut things out (or add something new) to clarify the meaning.
How much is enough?
Paring down doesn’t have to lessen something. You’re not giving in or giving up in a bad way but instead choosing what you positively need – the essentials.
Maybe you’re paring up when you par down.
Choosing the kind of home you live in – the size and location.
The amount and kind of clothing you need.
Food and water needed to live.
Money to pay your bills and survive in the future.
Choosing to par down or up also reflects who you are – living as your essential self.
