Control, Surrender, Trust
by Michael Feeley
What I’m seeing and learning is how much of life exists in that space between control and surrender. We make our plans, we reach out, we do our part—and then we wait. We trust others will follow through. We trust the timing will work itself out.
There’s something humbling about having multiple plates spinning in the air. We can’t force them all to land perfectly at once. We can only tend to what’s in front of us right now, today. Answer the email. Make the call. Show up for the meeting. Then release it.
The wisdom seems to be in knowing the difference—what we can actually control versus what we must simply trust will unfold. We prepare, then we let go. We act, then we wait. We commit, then we have faith in others to do the same.
Maybe that’s what patience really is: not passive waiting, but active trust. Trust in ourselves to handle what comes. Trust in others to do their part. Trust that we’re doing enough, even when everything feels suspended in mid-air.
One step at a time. One plate at a time. Trusting the process, trusting ourselves, trusting others.
