Change
by Michael Feeley
Change is happening right now, all around us, whether we notice it or not. And here’s the thing — we don’t have to wait for it. We can create it, in an instant, whenever we choose.
Look at how small the moment can be. You squeeze fresh lemons, and suddenly you have juice — a sudden, easy change, made by hand, right now.
You do a load of laundry.
You shop for fresh food and restock the kitchen.
You wait for a delivery, a new light for the pool, and picture how the water will glow differently once it arrives.
Small acts. Real change.
Then there’s the change we make in our minds, deciding who stays close and whom we let go of, in our own lives and in the wider world. That kind of change asks more of us, but it’s ours to make too.
Change is already moving through the world without asking our permission.
Today I feel August tipping into September. The air cooling, the wind picking up. The garden is going to seed, slowing its pace. Nurseries are selling off this year’s older plants, ready for someone to tuck them into the ground for next spring.
Change is everywhere. In the world, the country, the community, our own homes, our own lives. We can watch it happen, or we can reach out and start it ourselves.
What is one change you want to make today? Watch it happen.
