Why I Write about Ageing

Why I Write about Ageing

by Michael Feeley April 7, 2026

You may wonder why I write about ageing so frequently. Why I built a philosophy — a vocabulary, a movement — around growing older. Why I coined words like Vintageness and Sagerism.

Here’s the answer.

I’m 74 years old. I’ve lived on a Caribbean island for fourteen years. I became a certified career and life coach at 58. I wrote my first book at 73. I opened businesses, changed countries, and reinvented myself numerous times with deep creative joy. And I can tell you with certainty, from inside a life fully lived, that what the culture tells you about aging is wrong about the possibilities and meaning.

The status quo says you peak and then you decline. Finito.

Science says otherwise. Crystallized intelligence — the accumulated wisdom of a life deeply lived — does not diminish with age. It concentrates. It compounds. It becomes something no young person can replicate, because it cannot be rushed or downloaded or faked. It can only be lived into. That is not sentiment. That is what the research tells us, again and again. And I believe it — because I am living proof of it every single day.

You are not declining. You are deepening.

That is the foundation of The Vintage Way — the philosophy I have been building, practicing, and sharing. And I am not willing to let you give your depth away quietly with heartbreaking resignation.

You may be 55, 65, 75, or 85. You may have been told — by a culture obsessed with youth — that your best is behind you. That you are past your prime. That the world has moved on without you. That you have no more potential.

That is not a fact. It is a fake story. And you are allowed — right now, today — to choose a different story.

That is my reason. My purpose. My drive. My passion as I write.

Try this on:

Vintager. Sager. Sagerism. Vintageness. Someone who only gets better with time. Someone who is Vintageing — actively living into the fullness of who they are becoming. Someone whose life, fully and inexcusably lived, is already becoming a legacy — whether they know it or not.

Wear it for a day. See how it feels to walk through the world as someone whose value is not fading but concentrating. Someone irreplaceable. Someone whose particular combination of experience, wisdom, love, and hard-won truth has never existed before and will never exist again.

Because that is precisely what you are — a Vintage Warrior.

Not vintage in the sense of old and forgotten. Vintage in the truest sense — the best of what time and craft and commitment can produce.

The world needs you to know it.

And I write every single day so that you never, ever forget it.
