Who Do You Want to Work With?
by Michael Feeley
THERE ARE SPECIFIC people in the world you yearn to work for.
What will you do to make it happen?
Suggestion:
> Select the person and write down why you want to work with them – one sentence, be precise, no rambling.
> Do research on LinkedIn and other social media sites to know who they are.
> Google, study and learn all you can about them.
> What stands out about their life and work?
> What do you have in common?
> Read their books, their Blog, listen to their podcast, take their workshops, ask them a question—express gratitude for something they have done to better your life or the world.
> Build a solid, achievable plan to meet them and discuss how you can work together.
> Create a relationship like you did with your present partner, friends, colleagues at work, business contacts. Do it online – emails – handwritten letters – present your work, project, idea that connects with them.
> Create opportunities!
You’re not stocking this person. Instead, you’re growing and nurturing a working relationship with logic and emotion –
to do work you love with a person you respect, who is most likely one of your heroes. You have unlimited options. Do the work to see and connect and achieve your dream.
(I have done this many times with teachers, companies, and heads of companies.)
> What have you wanted in your life, so fervently, that nothing stopped you – NOTHING – until you got it?
See – Now you know you can do this because you did it once before.
