Who Are You Now?

Who Are You Now?

by Michael Feeley August 25, 2026

Who are you now?

Who did you used to be?

These aren’t idle questions. They’re the ones that decide whether your life feels like your own.

We all make choices — a career, a role, a version of success someone else handed us. The lawyer who studied for years, passed the bar, built the practice, and then discovered the work didn’t feed the part of him that mattered most. He got everything he aimed for and still felt the ache of something missing.

Here’s what I want you to tackle:

It’s OK to walk away from something you wanted, once you see it isn’t you. That’s not failure. That’s success. Walking away proves you were paying attention.

And what comes next is the real reward. The full-out joy of grappling with what is you. Not settling for an answer, but getting to ask, again and again, what work will satisfy your life.

What would you build if no one was watching? That question doesn’t expire. You can spend the rest of your life discovering it, and that’s not a consolation prize. That’s the self-work we all should be doing.

There are no rules on how many tries you get. No limit on how many times you’re allowed to change your mind, start over, choose differently. Nobody’s counting.

Just make sure the life you’re building is counting for you. Not for mom and dad. Not for the status quo. Not for your partner and kids. Not for the version of you that made a choice at twenty-two and never checked back in.

For you.

Are you who you want to be, right now, today? Not whom you hope to become someday. Who you actually are this morning.

And if the answer is no, what’s the smallest true step you could take today toward closing that gap?
