What Goes Beyond Money?

What Goes Beyond Money?

by Michael Feeley August 5, 2026

Money matters. We need it to live. But money is not the only measure of value — there is something deeper, and it lives in the self.

The real question isn’t just can I do this work well or does it pay. It’s more vital than that:

What do I truly want now?

You may love your work. You may do it beautifully, even profitably. And still — that is not the same question as what you want, today, from this point forward. Value shifts. What served you at one point in life may not be what your self is asking for now.

This is why we listen. We sit with our ‘self’ in peace and intensity, and we ask, honestly: Am I still doing what I want to do with my time, my life — or am I doing what I’ve always done? Sometimes the answer is yes, stay. Sometimes it’s time to cut it loose and open a new door.

Why not ask? Why not seek? See what comes up.

I recently sold two rental homes I had loved working on. One long-term, one a short-term vacation rental. The hours were long. The coordination with other people was constant. Financially, it served me well. But underneath the good numbers, I heard something noodling: I no longer wanted to give that kind of time and effort. Not because I couldn’t do it. Because it was no longer what I wanted.

So I sold them, and handed that work to people who still want it.

Now I have freedom. Room to make new plans, build new projects I haven’t even named yet.

I’m proud of what I built. I’m just as proud that I asked myself the deeper question, and told the truth.

So ask yourself: What do you truly want right now?

Trust the answer. Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is stop, rest, and begin again.
