Verbal Meditation

by Michael Feeley
I meditate every day and have for years to center myself, which means with calmness, clarity, and dynamic tranquility (positive energy).
I keep a pad of paper and a pen nearby because I frequently receive ideas for Daily blogs, seeking answers to questions I have as well as discovering questions I hope (and want) to ask coaching clients, and where new, creative ideas and words come to mind, along with looking for solutions to challenges, doubts, fears, irritations, anger, frustrations, and anxiety.
I also venture into verbal meditation, where I speak out loud, plan, rehearse ideas I want to be clear about, and imagine myself talking on podcast interviews, workshops I might build, meetings, and Zoom calls. I’m clarifying my thoughts, creating examples to give, refining words so I won’t ramble, but rather to be direct, economical, expressing what is on my mind and in my heart.
Verbal meditation is a wonderful process and event to allow to happen and participate in. Usually, we think meditation is a quiet activity, and words are not often expected, allowed, or necessary.
I’m encouraging the verbal breakthrough—adventure, freedom of stillness, and speech activity.
Allow the verbal practice – welcome refining and fine-tuning the exploration of speech – go with the flow and experience, experiment – trust yourself in verbal meditation as you talk to your ‘self’ out loud, and what the art of meditation brings out of you.
I believe there is no right or wrong in meditation, but please do what works well and best for you and your meditation ritual.
