Two Kinds of People
by Michael Feeley
There are people who build structures, even fortresses around themselves, and call it professionalism. They project confidence and organization, send emails about being “only reachable for emergencies” – performing some responsibility while protecting their real priority: themselves.
They’re rigid, do things one way (their way), and resist change. When something goes wrong, they pretend they didn’t know or complain loudly but do nothing to fix it. You’re in their calculations, but always as an afterthought. They’ve mastered the art of covering bases while staying fundamentally available but on their terms.
Work with them and you’ll feel managed, put in your place, kept at arm’s length, uncertain if they’ll actually be there when you need them. When Type 1 dominates, teams stall. Families fragment. Nothing changes because everyone’s protecting themselves.
Then there are people who show up fully. Not perfect but generous, visible, flexible, doing more than expected. They have goodwill because they’re actually there for you – no protective structure, no performance. They’re not out to teach you a lesson. They’re not afraid of criticism and don’t explode when confronted. They repeatedly solve problems.
And here’s the difference: they have real control, commitment, not pretense. When they complain and criticize something, they’re already rolling up their sleeves and doing. They make change happen and with happiness.
Be around them, and you feel seen, relaxed, energized, respected, supported, like you’re in it together. Where Type 2 shows up, trust grows. Progress happens. Real solutions and kindness emerge.
Which kind of person are you?
Which kind of human being do you want to be?
Here’s the truth: these aren’t personality types you’re stuck with. They’re the choices you make every day. And you can start making different ones right now.
