Straying on Purpose

by Michael Feeley
Sometimes it’s wise to stray, to lose your way, to stray off the chosen path and try a different route than originally planned. You purposefully stray to explore and find new things, answers to questions, spot and create opportunities, run into new challenges, and make decisions.
There are synchronicities to observe; you discover and meet other people who are also searching for something and have gone astray, just like you.
You may find that your choice to stray wasn’t the right direction to go, so you turn around and try something else.
When I wrote my book, The Next Act, I chose the genre of memoir. However, when I hired editor Ann Sheybani, we discovered that an inspirational book was a much better genre match for what I wanted to share with others.
I saw that I could utilize my experience and expertise as a career and life coach to delve deeper, level up, and have a greater impact on my target audience. I intentionally strayed, and I was confident it was the right decision.
Ann Sheybani was my synchronicity. A meaningful encounter. She appeared at the right moment with the guidance I needed, with similar yet deeper ideas and fresher goals for my book.
As you move away from a planned path, you may also become closer to what you want and what you are meant to do. What you are searching for is also searching for you.
Take a stray journey to learn and discover the unknown, new, or even the better, and come home refreshed. Purposeful wandering is connected to the intuitive decision-making that you are seeking.
What path are you so committed to that you might be missing a better route and should purposefully stray to see and learn more?
