Know What Gives You Peace
by Michael Feeley
Peace isn’t luck. It isn’t something that arrives by accident on a good day and disappears on a bad one. It’s specific. Trackable. If you pay attention, you can find the pattern. Almost like following logic, like a small science of your own calm.
So I made my list:
Writing a sentence of gratitude (sometimes several) brings me peace every time. Not eventually. Every time.
Sitting still at the garden table under the umbrella, a cool glass of water beside me, cello or piano music playing nearby, reading magazines and books on garden design and homes. Peace arrives there too, reliably, like it’s waiting for me to show up.
That’s the discovery: peace has ingredients.
Mine are gratitude, stillness, a particular chair, the right reading material. Yours have their own names.
The point isn’t to chase calm and hope it lands. It’s about knowing exactly what you do that creates it, and then doing those things on purpose whenever you need to come back to your peaceful self.
Clarity works the same way. Patience too. They’re not moods that casually visit. They’re built. They have reason. They have the same handful of moves, repeated until they become an organic reflex.
Make your list. Then use it. Peace and calm are ready for you at any time.
