Connection Matters
by Michael Feeley
WHEN IT COMES to people, what kind of connector are you – high-level because people matter or low-level, barely interested?
It’s a question I work on when coaching leaders, executives, and business builders.
Connection is the active choice to listen to the people you work with. Learning about who they are – what they do, their feelings, strengths, goals, doubts, fears, dreams. It also includes feedback about where things could be better for the company and their jobs.
Genuine connection builds trust. Trust in your company, manager, colleagues, and clients. It builds community. It builds loyalty.
It takes emotional work and commitment to understand people.
The most successful leaders make it a priority to know and grow. To have empathy and build a successful business by talking with people one-on-one, acting on what they are learning, and promoting change.
In a recent LinkedIn survey, I learned that 85% of employees are considering switching jobs this year.
– Why?
– How much does a statistic like this matter to a CEO, HR Director, head of sales, or entrepreneur?
– How can talent be retained, supported, and developed?
– What happens inside a company when people feel they matter – that they’re heard, valued, and respected?
People build businesses. Connection is crucial. Why not build the best jobs people have ever had and the best company to work at by listening, learning, and creating positive change?
