Are You Willing to Let Go?

by Michael Feeley
What I dreamed of most, hungered for, and worked hard to achieve, I got: becoming a professional actor and singer in New York City. I loved my work in the theatre! I did it for many years and then chose to stop and find other work. It was not an easy decision because acting was my plan for life. I didn’t want to do anything else. But I discovered there was more I was after – more was calling to me – more waiting up ahead.
It took me time to figure out my next act, to let go and relax into the considerable emotional and physical change.
The surprise was the happiness I found working as a headhunter helping people find jobs, which I did for 20 years.
Then, I transitioned again into becoming a career and life coach. It seems I’ve settled into this passion and purpose. It’s who I am meant to be. It gives me unlimited joy.
The three careers are all connected. The journey is incredible, and I know I’m not finished adding to this work I love. It includes writing the book – The Next Act – A Complete Guide to Career Change, Professional Reinvention, and Finding Work That Matters.
For a long time, Joseph Campbell’s inspiring words guided my search to find myself and live the life I am meant to live here on earth. I know his words are true.
“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
What do these words mean to you?
