You Need Darkness

by Michael Feeley
Challenging things happen to us all the time. It’s part of life. You’re convinced your story is over. The job is gone. The diagnosis came back. The relationship ended. You’re staring into darkness so thick you can’t remember what light feels like.
But here’s what I’ve learned as both a coach and a fellow traveler through dark seasons: You don’t escape darkness by finding light. You escape it by becoming light.
To become the light, strive to be the light for others. Not because it’s noble, but because it works.
A genuine interest in other people always helps us discover a kind of peace and a solution to our problems that we couldn’t see before.
Today, while you’re looking for your own stars, light someone else’s path. Ask how they’re really doing. Share what your pain just taught you.
Connecting and caring oppose the feeling of being alone with your questions and needs.
We need darkness to see the stars. We need each other to remember we’re made of the same light.
