Write a Letter of Reference about Your Self
by Michael Feeley
Letters of reference are sometimes for employment, entrance to higher education, or financial institutions lending money for various reasons. They usually come from other people who express their opinions about you, your work, and your good name.
Why not write – A Letter of Reference about Myself.
– The goal is not to fake or fabricate a letter of recommendation but to tell the truth about who you are, what you do, and why you do it through your eyes.
– The assignment (which I often give people in coaching) will help you define and describe yourself in the most profound and accurate ways.
– The work will enable you to see your ‘self’ as an object and assess your value in the world with logic and emotion. Tell the facts about your skills, core values, qualities, character, knowledge, credentials, life experience, creativity, potential, and expertise.
– The exercise will assist you feel confident, at ease, and free to talk about yourself. It is not intended to bloat your ego but to enable you to say why someone should trust you, hire you for a job, or buy your products and services.
– Be focused and concise as you tell your story personally and professionally.
Who knows you better than you?
