What’s New?
by Michael Feeley
THE WORD NEW is naturally on my mind with a new year happening.
I keep hearing the question of the opening lines to the song –
What New? How is the world treating you?
(Johnny Burke composed the music, and Bob Haggard wrote the lyrics in 1939)
It’s a great question to ask yourself and others and then to flip it and aim this vital question at yourself:
How am I treating the world?
I hope to be entirely fair to the outside world. I’m not there yet, but… I’ll get to where I’m going.
The world deserves justice from me, and that means:
> New understanding of human diversity
> Treating other people with new respect
> Equity
> Empathy
> New commit to change
> Practicing racial justice 100 percent of the time for the rest of my life.
And you?
What New? How are you treating the world?
