What are You Worth?
by Michael Feeley
“Get Better Clients.” I learned this from marketing expert and author Seth Godin. It’s an excellent principle to live by. I applied it to my work and released all problematic, cheap, selfish, and ungrateful clients. I’m happier and making a better living.
I also applied the idea to other aspects of my life.
Get better relationships.
Get better friends.
Get better jobs
Get better training.
Get better results.
Get better environments.
Get better fees.
If someone asks me about pricing – “Can you do better?” – I say no.
Do you ask your heart surgeon if he can do better and lower his price before the operation?
Do you ask your lawyer, accountant, hair stylist, personal trainer, or pharmacist if they can cut you a better deal?
Here’s a story about Picasso to help you honor your value and what your life experience, knowledge, and abilities are worth.
* * *
“A woman approached Picasso in a restaurant, asked him to scribble something on a napkin, and said she would be happy to pay whatever he felt it was worth. Picasso complied and then said, “That will be $10,000.”
“But you did that in thirty seconds,” the astonished woman replied.
“No,” Picasso said. “It has taken me forty years to do that.”
