Two Sides, One Self
by Michael Feeley
You are not one thing. You are two things.
Logic lives in you. So does feeling. Fact and passion. Discipline and desire. Neither wins for long. We are always trying to make sense of the opposites in ourselves.
For myself. I can be generous, open-handed, giving without counting the cost. I can also be tight. Controlling. Watching every corner.
Both are true. Both are me.
Science tells us the brain is not so neatly split as we once believed. Left is not pure logic. Right is not pure feeling. The truth is mixed, more woven together. But the wrestling is real, even if the map is wrong.
Maybe that is the point. We are not meant to resolve our opposites. We are meant to hold them, work with them, and understand how they work in us, in others and the world.
The generous hand and the closed fist. The plan and the leap. The fact and the ache. Dark and light.
Your body knows this, even when your mind wants a simple answer. It keeps switching sides, keeps looking for balance.
That is not a flaw or failure. It is the process and shape of being alive.
