There’ll Be Some Changes Made
by Michael Feeley
PEOPLE WORK WITH me as a Life + Career + Change Coach to change things in their lives and to be happy –
living as their true and best selves.
I believe you can change anything you want about yourself because…
– You can change the way you see the world
– Change your mind and make new choices
– Have a change of heart.
– Change is ready for you at any time.
I have a change theme song. The jazz standard – There’ll Be Some Changes Made. The Great Billie Holiday sings
my favorite version. She changed people’s lives with her singing, which is the purpose of art.
Listen to that opening trumpet, which heralds upcoming change.
Here are some lyrics:
“For there’s a change in the weather
There’s a change in the sea
From now on there’ll be a change in me
My walk will be diff’rent, my talk and my name –
Nothin’ about me is goin’ to be the same
I’m goin’ to change my way of livin’ if that ain’t enough
Then I’ll change the way that I strut my stuff
‘Nobody wants you when you’re old and gray
There’ll be some changes made – today.”

Here’s some vital history about the song:
The song’s debut was revolutionary because…
– The songwriters Benton Overstreet and Billy Higgins
– The original copyright publisher, Harry Herbert Pace
– The vocalist who first recorded it, Ethel Waters
– The owners of the record label, Black Swan
– The opera singer, Elizabeth Greenfield, for whom the label was named
– The musicians on the recording, led by Fletcher Henderson, were all African American.
– Historians identify the production as an essential part of the Harlem Renaissance.

What history! I’m grateful to have learned so much about this song and the people who created it and to share it with you.
I’m profoundly changed by all of this knowledge.
