I’ve written a book, and my gratitude is boundless for this moment in my life and the value I believe it offers. It’s another one of my dreams that now has come true.

On April 8, Summit Press Publishers will release The Next Act – A Complete Guide to Career Change, Professional Reinvention, and Finding Work That Matters.

The Next Act comes from my heart, expertise, and the lives of many other people with whom I have had the immense good fortune to work with on their careers and lives for the past 16 years as a professional career and life coach.

The Next Act is for people 50, 60, 70, and 80+ years old looking for their next act because they’re not ready to retire. They have more encores to give. As you may see and agree, many people are not finished with their dreams or creative work, and as we age, the status quo and society (even our very selves) let us know that we need to retire (should retire) because we are not as valuable as we once were—time to quietly fade away. I don’t feel this, and I’m 73. I’m Not Done Yet! This book attests to that, and I know lots of other people feel that way too. (I see myself as vintage… only getting better with age.)

This principle is central in The Next Act: 

All your skills are transferable to any other job you wish to do. All your expertise, life experience, abilities, talents, gifts, credentials, and training are immensely valuable. They are your golden assets and will enable you to reinvent yourself with the knowledge presented in – The Next Act. This fact comes from 20 years of working as a headhunter in New York City, finding people jobs. I use all this knowledge in my Career and Life Coaching work, enabling people to find work that matters – to them and others.

I thank my editor, Ann Sheybani, for her expertise. She was a lighthouse for me. Guiding me with purpose and empathy as we worked on this inspirational book. Creating a safe place of trust for me to say and write what I thought and felt and then letting me know, with mighty confidence, care and respect what worked and what didn’t.

She surrounds herself with an outstanding professional team of – book cover designers – copy editors – book formatters – and marketing wizards. I learned an incredible amount from Amy, Maddy, Melissa, Walt, and several unknown others and their wisdom.

I thank my friends, family and many more people who have encouraged my life and work and worth.

I wrote this book because I had something important say.

I write and coach to give maturing people, sages, and vintage warriors hope and purpose that all their skills and knowledge are vastly valuable and needed today and because many people are standing at a career crossroad deciding what to do now and next in their present work and how to march into new career opportunities.
