Something New – Something Different
by Michael Feeley
WHAT DOES IT MEAN to try something new – something different?
It’s a question I ask when coaching CEOs and other executives.
What would you like to change in your ‘self’ if you could be different and better?
What would you like to change in your work and the company to improve?
One answer is the need to know the people who work for the CEO better. Being more connected and aware of what a person does in the company and who they are.
It’s a crucial and courageous answer because as we dig deeper, we see that the CEO (an extremely busy man) doesn’t get out on the floor enough to observe and feel what goes on – to understand the atmosphere and energy that lives in their company – and that means the people.
How important is it for you to know a person’s name? The people who answer your phones, IT people, mailroom personnel
all the way up and down the line, and even those who clean your office at night.
How would people see you as a CEO if you were more present and available?
What effect would you have on people and their work if you cared more about your workers?
How much do you care for humanity?
What do you think another person deserves from you?
The questions are for all of us to answer – not just executives.
