Some Words Don’t Matter
by Michael Feeley
WE USE WORDS to communicate when we talk and write.
I’m always interested in the accuracy, economy, and efficiency of the words I use and also the words used by others.
Why pad a sentence with extra words when you can be direct?
I’m Happy – compared to – I’m very happy. (I hardly ever use the word very.)
Also, ‘ly’ words – Exceedingly nice – compared to – nice.
Boundless gratitude – versus the simplicity and purity of – gratitude.
We have choices, preferences, and the freedom to say what we mean and want. We’re lucky this way – immensely lucky.
Often less is more.
Thanks – Michael (he, him)
