Significant People and Significant Work
by Michael Feeley
FIND THE RIGHT person with the skills who cares, shows up, and solves problems.
I have a heavy metal gate at the front of my driveway, 30+ years old, that rusted out and broke off at the top hinge. UGH!
I called a few people who told me (without showing up) I needed to buy a new gate.
I called a welder I had worked with a couple of years ago, Jerome, who said, “I’ll come this afternoon.”
He showed up (remembered me), took a look, and wanted to know where he could plug in his heavy-duty extension cord, and away he went with his power tools grinding, cutting, and welding. In less than an hour, my gate was back up and working better than before it broke. Without me asking Jerome also checked the other three hinges and secured them, too.
It cost me $85.
Jerome wanted to help.
He did the work he came to do because it mattered to him.
He made a big difference and saved me money and time.
Jerome is a leader doing significant work – offering quality caring service.
Thanks – Michael (he, him)

This also matters – Leadership.
(I use the word ‘significant’ because of what I learned from Seth Godin and his new book – The Song of Significance – which I see as true.)
