Renewal
by Michael Feeley
WE EACH HAVE the choice for self-renewal until our lives are over. It’s the choice to continue, resume, repeat, and improve with meaning.
Renewal is personal motivation, inspiration, and the desire to take action and do – to keep learning and growing and even to begin again at any time or age.
Renewal has energy, vitality, and purpose to it. It’s not just going through the motions but living up to your potential and discovering what that means specifically for you.
You rewind a clock when it runs down, stoke a fire before it goes out, and renew a subscription, contract, or relationship. A garden renews after winter and flourishes with the right Spring conditions, sun, water, and good earth. You renew work after a break and decide to create more projects when one is completed. The sun is constantly renewing itself, not burning out.
I’ve had the desire to keep renewing all my life. I’m driven to achieve my dreams and to fill out new chapters in my life story. My choice is to take action. Not to quit or lock myself down into inaction. I’m still pulling things out of myself, and so is life. At 70 I took on a new coaching job.
I think of Warren Buffett, Founder and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, at 93 years old, still moving forward. Rupert Murdoch retired from News Corp at 92. Michael Bloomberg is 81 and still runs his media enterprise.
Renewal is in you. The energy, commitment, resources, resiliency, love, gratitude, optimism, curiosity, enthusiasm, creativity, joy, taking risks, and caring are in you.
Renewal and meaning are things you work on. They’re life choices that happen if you care.
