Let Us Dance
by Michael Feeley
THINGS HAPPEN to us, and around us all the time, and as we live, we work to understand life and ourselves.
A rose was blooming in the garden on December 21.
I saw the splash of pink dancing around in the wind, high above the trellis, enduring cold winds, and I brought it inside.
It opens with warmth, windowpane sunshine, and fresh room-temp water. What a beautiful surprise this Winter rose is.
It reminds me of Stephen King’s words and our life choices.
“We did not ask for this room or this music. We were invited in. Therefore, because the dark surrounds us, let us turn our faces to the light. Let us endure hardship to be grateful for plenty. We have been given pain to be astounded by joy. We have been given life to deny death. We did not ask for this room or this music. But because we are here, let us dance.”
The rose and the work of Stephen King are surprising and something to be grateful for. They help me make sense of the opposites we live with – familiarity and the extraordinary – good and evil – inside and outside – dark and light – fear and reason.
Let us dance.
