It Is What It Is

by Michael Feeley
The phrase – “It is what it is” sounds like surrender, but it’s actually freedom.
When you finally say “It is what it is,” you’re doing something powerful: you’re accepting reality as your starting point. Not forever. Just right now.
That difficult person isn’t going to suddenly become easy.
The missed deadline happened.
Broken promises and trust may not heal.
The pain is real. These are facts, and facts don’t care about our wishes.
But here’s the gift: once you accept what is, you stop wasting energy fighting reality. You stop the exhausting cycle of “this can’t be happening” and “why is this happening to me?”
You see clearly. And clarity gives you choice.
You can walk away.
You can set a boundary.
You can make a plan for change.
You can ask for help.
You can try to improve things.
Or you can simply decide this isn’t your battle today and move forward.
Even in deep pain, knowing exactly what you’re facing is better than confusion.
Truth, even hard truth, is ground you can stand on.
“It is what it is” doesn’t mean “it will always be this way.” It means: this is the real situation right now, and I can work with reality.
That’s not giving up. That’s being sensible, wise, and hopeful.
