In-Between
by Michael Feeley
The big moments get all the attention. The dream interview, the book launch. The award, the yes, the applause. Then the room goes quiet. That’s the in-between. It’s where most of life actually happens.
You had a great interview. It couldn’t have gone better. Now you wait to hear yes or no, and the waiting is its own kind of hard. Don’t sit still for it. Keep looking. Keep applying. Don’t put all your chickens in one interview room.
The same goes for a book. Mine had its moment: reviews, awards, sales, real momentum. Then the calls slowed, the mentions thinned, and I caught myself asking: when will something big happen again? That’s the in-between talking. It’s resistance. It wants you to wait. To feel stalled. Adrift.
Don’t wait in the in-between. Build. Create. Take new risks.
Pitch the book to podcasters. Send it to people who might share it, promote it, pass it along. Write the next piece. Plan the next chapter before anyone asks you to.
The in-between isn’t empty. It’s where you build the next big moment, quietly, strategically, before it has a name.
Big moments are given to you. You build in-between moments. That’s the difference, and it means you’re never just waiting. You’re working.
Don’t wait for big. Build toward it.
