How Can You Encourage Someone Now?
by Michael Feeley
I worked in recruiting for 20 years in New York City – helping people find jobs. The work mattered because I wanted to assist people to earn a living – to find work they loved – to feel expressed – useful – happy. Work from filing clerks to
Human Resource directors.
People are my business. Especially now when most of us are working from home; concerned about how to make a living and how to help others.
We’re all part of this world corona virus – united and focused on finding our way.
Each of us has a unique reason for being here in our lives and careers. Think about the people around you that you know and count on: Doctors, nurses, chefs, bakers, teachers, housekeepers, grocery, restaurant, hotel, car rental business owners, painters, waiters, builders, cashiers, taxi drivers, delivery people, electricians, computer experts, clergymen, gardeners, pool people, plumbers, pilots, firemen, police, real estate agents, jewelers, boat captains, mechanics, builders, garbage collectors, gas station attendants, government officials, writers, artists, hair dressers, mothers, fathers, children…
In a video ‘Zoom’ meeting, with friends, we talked about our purpose:
– What helpful work are you doing during this world crisis?
– How can you assist, be kind and empowering to other people?
So much of the current labor is emotional labor. Doing compassionate, hard work to understand what people are feeling.
– What do others need and want?
– What’s in the heads and hearts of family, friends, neighbors and even strangers?
How can you encourage someone right now?
Thanks – Michael
