Good Out of Disappointment
by Michael Feeley
You lost out. You got turned down. Now what?
I was rejected by every college I applied to except my backup school. I felt disappointed and ashamed. But that “last choice” school had a fantastic music program that changed everything.
Halfway through my freshman year, my 3.8 GPA opened new doors. I applied to transfer and was accepted into my first-choice school—with a scholarship.
Disappointment became opportunity. Rejection became success.
This pattern has repeated throughout my life.
Heartbreak revealed unexpected, promising paths.
Loss cleared space for growth.
Closed doors forced me toward better ones I hadn’t noticed.
Here’s what I’ve learned: disappointment isn’t the end of your story—it’s often the plot twist that makes everything else possible.
The question isn’t whether disappointment will come. It will. The question is: what will you discover because of it?
Maybe that rejection saved you from the wrong path.
Maybe that loss created room for something better.
Maybe you’re standing at the exact turning point that will make sense years from now.
How about you? What good has come from your disappointments?
