Generative Thinking Al Learning

Generative Thinking Al Learning

by Michael Feeley July 13, 2025

I just finished an excellent online AI (artificial intelligence) course, created by Seth Godin, on Udemy – “Thriving in an AI Future.” It’s not long, really practical, and a confidence builder. I highly recommend this opportunity to learn about the vital aspects of AI.

I took it because I want to learn more about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and not be left behind because, like email, it looks like it’s here to stay.

Sure, I have fear because I’m in unknown territory, but I’m breaking down that fear by learning (baby step by baby step) what AI can do for me, other people, my clients, and the world.

Every day, I challenge myself to read about AI for 30 minutes or more and actively work and play with the technology of AI through tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and soon Perplexity and Midjourney.

I got hooked on this idea in Seth’s course, ” Generative Thinking.”

I like the idea and words, as I’m researching it.

It means learning through study and inquiry, following your own genuine curiosity, doing the work, owning the results, and the responses. It’s not box checking or busy, boring tasks. You get right into the heart of learning, creating, innovating, and taking imaginative risks, so you act on what you’ve learned, not on being told what to do. (I am not a 9-5 system worker who follows orders and completes “to-do lists.”)

The learning is deep if you welcome it with an open mind. It adds to you, your long-term memory and ability to be resilient and resourceful.

It’s a shift in mindset from doing tasks to contributing your own work, which includes new ideas, concepts, research, understanding, making sense, and exploring different things from new angles, both now and into the future.

AI is change. It’s new, and learning about it now helps you prepare for change as it happens.

Do the work and you can produce something new for yourself, others, and even make a mark on the world. You can create opportunities and design possibilities. That’s exciting for me.

I see that understanding is the key. That means seeing the value in learning, practicing, and growing new skills with AI, which is also related to what you already know.

I see two kinds of AI technology.

Conversational AI, which seems to create real feelings that act like a human interaction with you and the text.

And…

Generative AI, which creates original content from a prompt (specific instructions) that a human gives.

I use Claude (AI) to challenge my writing and check its clarity, as well as how well I am sticking to a point, and what might be missing, and valuable to consider adding..

I ask specific prompts (questions), and once I receive answers, I then take it all into consideration, edit, and decide what works and what doesn’t work. I see AI as an asset. It is chock-full of data and opportunity.

I’m liking my AI studies because I am leading with my learning and creativity. I’m connecting with knowledge, and I’m enveloped in change and growth.

The course, “Thriving in an AI Future,” is enabling me to take action and do and not wait around for someone else to tell me what and how to do things.

– How can you take a simple, small step each day to know AI?

– How can you introduce yourself to the technology of Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Midjourney, and more, so you can put it to play and work for you and others?

– Ask yourself – What can I do with AI?

– Think Generative, not tasks.

– Choose understanding over fear.

– Be curious, not complacent.

– You can learn AI, and you do not need to do it alone.

I’m shifting from “I can’t. AI is scary,” to “AI is learnable and exciting. AI is a great opportunity.”

Why not work with AI rather than against it?
