Fear has Antidotes
by Michael Feeley
What are antidotes to fear?
– Begin by first naming your fear. Speak it out loud and then write it down on paper in full detail. Fears are specific.
– Understanding your fear, learning about it, and gaining knowledge removes its power.
– Be interested in other people and things. Fear usually focuses on yourself.
– Tell people about your fear. Talk about it. You may discover your worries are similar to others’ fears.
– Take action to counter your fear. Sitting still does little to change the fear you are experiencing.
– Confidence is the opposite of fear. Build your confidence and self-esteem. What facts keep you sure of yourself and strong?
– Gratitude counters fear. It opposes tightness, smallness, and scarcity. Positivity is against the negativity of fear. Gratitude is generous.
– Courage combats fear. It lessens the hold fear has on you. You have courage.
– Self-belief and hope push back the effects of fear on you.
Whenever fear catches me, I think of the inspiring words of Marie Curie, the physicist and chemist who discovered radium.
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.
Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less.”
