Do You Give Too Much?
by Michael Feeley
IF YOU ARE a giver, can you give too much? Yes.
If you give too much – commit to too many things – spread your ‘self’ thin – book yourself solid – you will burn yourself out physically and emotionally.
By giving too much to others, you neglect yourself by constantly running to ‘do it all.’
You and your work will suffer.
You’ll corrupt your profound and good hope to do efficient work.
Cheapen the quality of your work.
Deplete – hurt – lessen yourself and the services you offer.
What happens if you promise things and forget or don’t show up? The integrity of your work is damaged. It becomes partial work, average, below standard, and ordinary.
Take time to give.
Give giving the respect it deserves.
Giving too much becomes too little.
Yes and no are crucial choices to make as a giver:
Yes, I can do this and be fair to the work.
No. I can’t do this and be just.
If yes is too often and too much and the work isn’t getting done, then people will be angry and impatient, talk against you, and find others to help them.
Give enough. Not too much.
