Commitment: Your Promise to Yourself
by Michael Feeley
When you commit to something, you take responsibility. You move forward with purpose toward a goal or plan of action. That’s leadership in its simplest form.
Keep your commitments simple and direct. Complex promises become confusing promises. When you can state your commitment clearly, you can follow through clearly.
Commitment is a promise—to yourself first, then to others. It’s not about grand declarations or elaborate plans. It’s about saying what you’ll do and doing it.
The power of commitment lies in its clarity. A simple “I will” carries more weight than a complicated “I might if everything aligns perfectly.” Your commitment creates the path forward.
When you commit, you choose. You decide. You act. That decisiveness gives you momentum and builds trust—both in yourself and with the people counting on you.
Simple. Direct. Heartfelt. That’s commitment.
