CLERKs + CEOs
by Michael Feeley
WE LIVE AT a time when work and leadership principles are changing.
I was a headhunter for 20+ years in New York City, finding people jobs – from CLERKs to CEOs. What did I learn?
People are more alike than different.
Different titles, responsibilities, pay grades, skills, and life experiences exist. Still, we all have a way of seeing the world with similar questions – how to be happy and prosperous with our lives and the work we choose to do.
Coaches help people to create change in themselves, their communities, and the world.
We look at values, enabling people to reshape their lives and world view, achieve dreams, take a person from where they are to where they want to be, bring out the very best in them, and encourage them to do the same for others.
When I coach executives, it can be the C-Suite management of human beings with an organized structure in place.
– C Suite people are considered the top tier of a company.
– CEO – Chief Executive Officer – COO – Chief Operating Officer (2nd in command) – CFO – Chief Financial Officer works with both – CTO – Chief Technology Officer – CIO – Chief Information Officer. The CTO and CIO can seem similar, but the CIO looks inwardly at the processes inside the company. In contrast, the CTO looks outward to improve innovative products to serve clients. (I would also like to add CLO – Chief Listening Officer.)
– MD – The Managing Director has years of experience managing staff and operations, works below the CEO, and reports directly to the CEO.
– Vice Presidents – V-suite executives and SRVP – Senior Vice Presidents report to the C-level management.
– Directors – D-level management reports to V-level management. Directors can be in marketing, sales, HR, technology, and compliance.
– There are also stock, mailroom, data entry clerks, receptionists, salespeople, IT experts, executive and personal assistants, accountants, and lawyers, all with different titles, job commitments, pressures, and salaries.
Are their questions and feelings any less important than those of C-suite employees?
Every person is a leader – making a living – being a whole self with – hopes, desires, joys, plans, fears, doubts, energy, personal challenges, responsibilities, creativity, dreams, gratitude, and job pride.
We are all on a journey, on different paths. I believe we should all enjoy the process of living, respecting, and caring about one another. Living with equality.
We each have a specific purpose here on earth, expressing our true selves. singing our unique song in whatever way we choose.
