Celebrate and Fight
by Michael Feeley
WE CAN CELEBRATE and we can fight.
Celebrate with gratitude – understanding – hope – happiness – laughter – kindness – empathy.
And…
Fight over our differences, beliefs, values, and the intention to have evil power to control.
We can live together and celebrate life and each other and… be separate.
You can see the choices happening now in other parts of the world, maybe across the street from your home or in the schools where children learn together.
Choices for celebrating and fighting – living separate and together – exist from nations to playgrounds.
Can celebration and fight work together? Oh Yes! All the opposites can be one. Duality can blend beautifully and make sense.
Look at music – different, separate notes that come together, side by side, to create one song or symphony – different note values and rhythms that make logical and emotional sense – harmonies that are for and against each other – sharp and natural – dissonance and sweetness – conflict with resolution – unison and individuality – agreement with variety.
Music is a celebration of life—a oneness of celebration and fight.
Sometimes, to celebrate, you must fight for something with all your might, such as freedom, fight against discrimination, and choose to be an antiracist to celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Look at the words. Say them out loud:
Celebrate – Fight – Together – Separate.
Hear the sameness and difference?
What combinations and possibilities there are!
What vital choices we each have.
