Belonging – Inclusion
by Michael Feeley
BELONG – BELONGING – INCLUSION – I belong here – I’m welcomed, respected, cared about, even loved.
What inspirational words and state of being.
I believe it’s what we all want to feel, and it is such a profound and joyful obligation to have other people feel they belong – they are included. It’s their natural birth right.
“Inclusion – The act of creating environments in which any individual or group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate and bring their full, authentic selves.”
(This definition provided by Hella Social Impact.)
Service is the essence of who I am.
My desire to offer another person exceptional service and feel happy runs me. It’s the desire to know and come through with loving, creative, tireless results.
Great service is something I have been offering since I was a little boy. Shoveling snow, mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, working in my town library, cleaning apartments, singing on stage, finding people jobs., coaching, real estate, writing.
How may I help you? – is the service of inclusion. Instantly I connect with people’s needs when I ask this question.
Good and kind service draws in people and has them coming back for more. That’s inclusion.
It’s my beautiful choice of work to be a coach and to try and know a person – to help them feel free and open – to change and be the very BEST they can be.
I want people to feel at home with themselves, and in the world. Inclusion is creating trust and hope, and positive change.
Inclusion is having full and practical empathy, and opposing injustice. I believe it’s what a person deserves just by being alive.
People always remember when you make them feel good, and that is belonging – inclusion. It’s simple human decency and goodwill – the hope that good things happen to another person and you’ll do all you can to make good things happen.
How inclusive are these words of John Adams, which express me very well –
“If we do not lay out ourselves in the service of mankind, whom should we serve?“
