Become a Newbie
by Michael Feeley
As I mature, I often feel like a newbie, not inexperienced but seeing things through fresh eyes, beginning again with vitality in my work, outlook, and skills, practicing and being aware of my daily habits and procedures. I’m always learning something new, even when it is familiar.
I’m not forgetting things or questioning. I’m simply feeling revitalized, experiencing new feelings as I type, write, and talk to people. I feel excitement and gratitude for all my senses, mind, and heart and for the gift of being alive.
The newbie experience opposes feeling stuck.
It’s like an aged rose bush in the Spring, producing new leaves and buds after a winter of rest. There is so much life in the new.
I notice this newbie situation, especially in my work as a coach, helping people (executives, leaders, entrepreneurs, freelancers) to get unstuck or shift careers and look at things as if – for the first time – to renew themselves and value all their skills and life experiences. Rejuvenate their goals and intentions and feel the thrill of building something. Growth. Pride in their work.
The newbie mindset includes the choice to work on yourself to live your best life and contribute something meaningful to the lives of other people and the world.
Try it. Why not act like a newbie for a day and see what happens?
Newbie – Be New
