Awe
by Michael Feeley
What is awe?
Where do you have awe in your life?
Awe is one of my favorite words and emotions. For me it means: Amazed by something or someone – Wonderstruck – Astonished – Captivated with reverence and respect – where you’re nearly breathless and still – surprised – overwhelmed by a sight, sound, feeling, taste, touch.
Awe activates all your senses and makes for gratitude. (There’s the popular and a bit overused word ‘awesome’.)
Awe happened to me seeing this pink and purple flower blooming on my porch. That the world could produce this kind of plant, with that intense color and shape. So strong and delicate and… it’s real!
The awe of extreme beauty in nature is present here. ‘Tillandsia – Pink Quill or Air Plant’ (it clings and grows where it can from telephone wires to trees; has hardly any roots and gathers moisture through its leaves.)
I have awe for certain people – places – things – ideas:
Nelson Mandela – Venice – a hummingbird – real French croissants – flying in a plane – sunrise – Chris Botti’s trumpet playing – Monet’s paintings – Mary Oliver’s poetry – watching my partner – freedom – the awe of being alive.
Right now take 5 minutes and renew awe in your life.
Look around and let awe happen as you see and feel the wonder of the universe – man – yourself. There is so much awe!
What is one thing that makes for awe in you?
Thanks – Michael
Please give this to your tribes to inspire the fresh seeing of awe.
