All Your Skills are Transferable
by Michael Feeley
They travel with you wherever you go for your entire life. Ready to use.
Everything you’re passionate about – learned playing an instrument, sports, mixing paints, good at math, cooking without a recipe, organizing, creating events, giving service+++
These skills and life experiences are never obsolete. You continue to learn about them, from them, growing and honoring them, being changed, and changing others for the better.
What skills do you use today that you cherish, perhaps from the past? Maybe something you stored away thinking you were done with them?
For me, it was acting – The art of building a role. Giving life to a character in a play or movie, learning how to live in the mind and heart of a person I did not know, who was both the same and different from me. By passionate choice, I changed myself into someone else.
It was empathy – understanding – feeling their soul – joys and pain – dedicated to being completely fair to all their thoughts, words, emotions, and actions.
These skills were transferable to my work as a Life Coach – the privilege of standing in other people’s shoes, listening, asking questions, and assisting them in creating change so they can be all they hope to be, living their best lives.
Coaching (like acting) brings out the potential of others, emotionally connecting with a person’s inner purpose and passions to bring about extraordinary and sustainable results.
See what I’m getting at? What skills do you treasure and use in whatever work you do?
