You’re Remarkable
by Michael Feeley
When looking for work as a freelancer or for a permanent position, be professional, bold, respectful, grounded, free, wild, and imaginative. Color outside the lines, go to the edges, and even over onto the backside space so the people you are connecting with become really curious about you and pull you in to talk and learn more about you.
Remember, you are a market of one in a market of many. You have a story to tell about your work, and you need to reach the right people who want to hear what you have to say, need you, and learn about your skills, attitude, work ethic, accomplishments, and ideas.
Be the entrepreneur you are. Market and promote yourself. Don’t stop until you find what you want. Don’t get tired. Always be inspired, persistent, and original.
Finding work and building a career is about you, not being ordinary and saying no to being one of the masses and instead being exceptional, a standout, and a sensation.
If a company wants average, a conformer who fits in, doesn’t ask questions, and does what they’re told, it’s something to take seriously and probably may not be the place for you.
Tell people why you are an opportunity for their company and a boss.
Create what is next for you and what is now for you.
Asking is hard but so worth it. Practice asking. It becomes easier and more exciting as you practice speaking up and asking for what you want and deserve.
You are always closer to opening more doors than you know and connecting to more people than you imagine. When you take your first steps toward change and find work you love, the things you want most will come closer to you naturally.
You are remarkable at what you do.
We each are remarkable in some or many ways, and it’s your job to know why and show why.
I didn’t particularly appreciate getting stuck in a type or defined by a job title or being seen as just an employee.
I prefer to be highly valued, thought of regularly, and called upon first. That’s what also makes a person indispensable, and I thrive on that. You can too.
