Your Work is Your Legacy in Real Time
by Michael Feeley
You’re not 30 anymore, building a first career. You’ve got decades of experience behind you. You’ve watched colleagues do brilliant work and you’ve seen others phone it in. You know the difference. You learned and benefited from it all.
So here’s the question: Are you holding yourself to the same standard you’ve held others and yourself to all these years?
Or have you gotten comfortable? Told yourself “It doesn’t matter so much… good enough ” when you know it isn’t? Do you let things slide because you’re tired or because you think nobody’s really watching or truly cares?
At this stage, your work isn’t just representing you—it’s your legacy taking shape in real time. It’s what you’ll be remembered for. That’s sobering. And it’s powerful.
Here’s the gift: if you’re building something new now, your past reputation is vital, but it doesn’t have to define this chapter. Your NEW work gets to speak for you. That’s liberating. You get a fresh start, but with the wisdom you’ve earned.
Some of you might fear you’ve already blown it. That nobody will take you seriously at your age. That ship has sailed.
Wrong.
Every day—every project—is a chance to let your work prove the doubters wrong. Including the doubter in your own head.
You know what excellence looks like. You’ve seen it, you’ve done it, you’ve recognized it in others for years. Now apply that same uncompromising standard to yourself because you’re not done yet!
Your encore doesn’t get a pass because you’re older. It gets to be your masterpiece because you’re wiser. You have an abundance of skills, life experience, credentials, talents, abilities, expertise—more than you’ve ever had.
Make it count because you count.
