Your Choice to Lead

Your Choice to Lead

by Michael Feeley February 11, 2024

STUDYING LEADERS is part of my work as an executive coach. Many are young leaders today passionately offering service to the world, committed and taking action to create positive change in people’s lives politically, socially, and financially, ending wars, solving climate change, stopping discrimination+++ Some people put their lives on the line every day to lead.

Leading is a choice, and we each can make that choice to lead at any time or place – to lead in elementary school as a class official – lead as a community help volunteer for food, clothing, and housing projects – lead in a mastermind group – lead in a creative marketing division of a company – lead in whatever you do and wherever you live.

You have life experiences, knowledge, and skills that matter; when applied, they can do something to help people and improve their lives.

Many current leaders are meeting people’s hopes, earning their trust because people believe in these leaders’ beliefs, what they stand for as they work to build a better world, to know what people want, and then to make it happen—inspiring others to join in – to unit as a team – a community – a tribe.

Greta Thunberg – Swedish environmental climate change activist – 21 years old.

Nadia Murad – Yazidi human rights activist – 30 years old.

Gabriel Attal – Prime Minister of France – 34 years old.

– Vjosa Osmani – the 2nd female president of Kosovo – 41 years old.

Leo Varadkar – Prime Minister of Ireland. Elected at age 38 – now 44 years old.

Malala Yousafzai – Pakistani education activist – 26 years old.

Gabriel Boric – President of Chile – 37 years old.

Sanna Marin – Prime Minister of Finland from 2019 – 2023. Starting at age 34 she was the youngest person to head a government in the world.

The world is moving fast. It’s changing whether we want it to or not, and we can choose to follow, do what we’re told, or decide to lead in some way. Big or small. You can commit, take responsibility, and make some kind of difference.
