Work is Process
by Michael Feeley
When you’re on the job hunt, it’s crucial to ask yourself these questions and jot down your responses. Putting your thoughts on paper makes your plan concrete and enduring. These written words will steer you towards a well-thought-out and heartfelt strategy to pursue work you’re passionate about and proud of. Work that expresses you and truly matters.
> What work do you want to do?
> Why do you want to do this work?
> What company do you want to work for?
> Why do you want to work there?
> What person or people do you want to work for?
> Why do you want to work for this person and people?
Conduct thorough and caring research into the company and the people. Understanding and knowing all you can about them is essential, just as you know a great deal about yourself.
– Maybe you want to do similar work but at a different company.
– Maybe you want to build an entirely new and different career.
The questions and process are the same. Commit to the work and put in the deserved effort to gain the desired results. Don’t be casual. Don’t postpone and wait until the last minute. Be respectful. Take all the time you need to prepare as you learn and practice finding work. Study and learn as if taking a final exam, which means participating in written and oral examinations. (It’s prep for interviewing.)
Once you know what you want—and that is the essential challenge—you can continue to build an achievable plan to connect with the company and people and earn what you want.
Remember, finding a job and building a career is a journey. Make it enjoyable. Be inquisitive and let your heart guide you to discover more profound, authentic answers. Your heart often knows the way. Trust it. Let it lead you to your desired destiny.
