Where is the World Kind to You?
by Michael Feeley
Even as we witness wars rage and tyrants grasp for power, kindness persists—quiet, steady, and often unnoticed. It’s easy to become consumed by the darkness in our news feeds, but what if we paused to ask: where is the world kind to you today?
Look around. Fresh air fills your lungs without permission or payment. Sunlight streams through your window, indifferent to borders and politics. Food sits on your table—grown by hands you’ll never meet, transported by people whose names you’ll never know. This is kindness woven into the fabric of our daily existence.
Consider the stranger who held the door, the neighbor who waved, the healthcare worker who stayed late. Think about the teacher who believed in a struggling student, the bus driver navigating through rain to get people home safely, the volunteer at the food bank who sees dignity in every person they serve.
These aren’t grand gestures that make headlines. They’re the humble and powerful threads that keep our world from unraveling completely.
Yet as I write this, I’m also painfully aware that not everyone experiences this kindness equally. Millions lack clean water, safe shelter, and basic medical care. Children go to bed hungry while bombs fall overhead. This truth must humble us—our kindness is often privilege in disguise.
But acknowledgment shouldn’t breed paralysis. Instead, let it awaken us. When we recognize the kindness surrounding us, we become more capable of extending it to others. Every act of compassion, however small, is an act of resistance against the cruelty that dominates our headlines.
The world is still kind. We just need to notice it—and then become it.
