Where Do You Get Your Values From?
by Michael Feeley
Where do your values come from?
You weren’t born with certain principles; you learned them and made choices that worked for you.
You watched your parents, guardians, friends, and teachers. You grew up in a culture and community and saw how people lived and treated others. You experienced life and made personal decisions that helped create your beliefs – your attitude to the world.
Some values are truth, honesty, reliability, justice, respect, kindness, safety, and empathy.
What you value can change over time as you assess what’s essential for your well-being and growth.
Choices, change, and commitment are all part of living your values and leading.
“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.
Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits.
Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
