What Work Do You Want To Do?
by Michael Feeley
Two similar questions asked in two different ways.
1. If you lost your job tomorrow, what would you want to do next?
2. If you could decide, right now, on the work you want to do, what would that be?
Forget the ladder. Forget what others expect. Forget your resume. What do you want? What’s next? For whom? Whom do you want to help, serve, become known for?
In career coaching, 90% of people answer immediately. No hesitation. It’s already there, waiting.
Then I ask the harder question: Why aren’t you doing that?
The answers come slower. Fear. Money. Timing. “I’m too far in to start over.” We sit with those. We test them. Some are real walls. Most are old stories. Faking away. Resistance helping you hide.
But here’s what I watch for. When someone lands on their solid truth, something shifts. Their energy rises. Confidence surfaces. Joy and immense gratitude appear because the essence of who they are has come to light. That’s not performance. That’s core recognition. Right from the center of you. The gut truth.
Then we get to work: seeing if it’s achievable, then building the plan that gets them there. Not someday. Now.
You get one life. That includes the work you do with your best hours.
So why not be happy with it?
