What Effect Do You Want to Have?
by Michael Feeley
WHATEVER YOU DO, will you leave the world better off or worse?
– If you rent a room at a Bed & Breakfast, will you leave it pretty much the way you found it or not care?
– If you give a presentation, will you be the same person afterward meeting people or less cordial and helpful?
– If you earn a client’s business, will you continue to build your relationship or hand them over to someone else and
move to the next piece of business?
You always have a choice in all your thoughts and actions, and some essential questions are:
> What effect do you want to have on people and things?
> How much does your effect matter to you?
> What does your effect say about your choice for justice and ethics?
There is always a choice between having Respect and Contempt.
Goodwill or Ill-will.
Love and Hate.
Generosity or Tightness.
Kindness or Coldness.
War and Peace.
Gratitude or Resentment.
Sometimes, you don’t have to say anything because your presence walking down a street, through a store, or talking on a phone has an effect, and people know your choices and feel how you live.
