Vintageing
by Michael Feeley
I’m not denying. Not running from…
Ageing.
I’m exploring and living it with curiosity, imagination, purpose and a certain creative delight. Because ageing is real, it’s part of all our lives, and there is something about it that culture must further discover and define.
So I’m expanding it. Deepening it. Adding a word alongside it that changes things about how it feels.
Vintageing.
Say it slowly. Feel the difference in your body when you do.
Vintageing.
Ageing implies something happening to you — a tide coming in, a candle burning down.
Vintageing is something ripening within you. Concentrating. Enriching. Becoming, with every passing moment and season, more essentially and unapologetically itself. You.
This is what the finest wines do. Not the young ones — bright and eager and easily forgotten. The ones that have spent years deepening. Growing complex. Earning their flavor note by note, season by season, until the person who opens them understands immediately — this was worth the wait.
That is vintageing.
It is not passive. Vintageing is an active daily happening and choice — to stay curious, to stay open, to be aware, to keep bringing everything you are into everything you do. Every skill you refused to let go of. Every bit of expertise. Every new idea you leaned toward when it would have been easier to turn away.
Every morning, you choose engagement over retreat — that is vintageing. You just didn’t have the word for it yet.
Now you do.
Vintageing: vint – age – ing.
And… so… we age — yes, fully and without apology. And we vintage. Both at once. One tells us what is happening. The other tells us what is possible.
That is the invitation. The opportunity. To age with creativity, with pride, with a spirit of glorious and deliberate expansion.
Welcome to Vintageing.
